Twenty-two footballers to be selected from the Governor
Dickson’s Football Tournament will embark on a playing tour of Europe.
Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson made this known in
Yenagoa on Friday at the unveiling of the mascot and presentation of jerseys
for the tournament, which will take place across the state for two months.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Rear
Admiral John Jonah (retd.), insisted that youths being the future of any
nation, needed to be encouraged to utilise their skills for the overall good of
the society.
He explained that the tournament, which is also called
Restoration Cup 2015, was being organised as part of the state government’s
human capacity building efforts to empower youths of the state, through
sporting activities.
He called on young people to take keen interest in football
alongside their education, as it provided a platform for self-actualisation and
the overall betterment of the society.
